Characters of The shattered chain

The Shattered Chain is divided into 3 parts, with Part I occuring 12 years before Parts II and III. Therefore, the character lists are divided into two sections, with section 1 having a character list from Part I of the book, and section 2 having a character list from Parts II and III of the book.

Part I

  • Main characters:
    • Lady Rohanna Ardais: Lady of Ardais; wife of Gabriel Ardais; cousin of Melora and Jaelle Aillard, cousin of Princess Jerana Elhalyn-Aillard, cousin of Camilla n'ha Kyria, kinswoman of Lorill and Leonie Hastur; firm supporter of the Renunciates and Terrans.
    • Kindra n'ha Mhari: A mercenary soldier in the Guild of Renunciates. She died 3 years before Part II in The Shattered Chain.
    • Lady Melora Aillard: Cousin of Rohanna Ardais, Princess Jerana Elhalyn-Aillard, Lorill and Leonie Hastur, and Camilla n'ha Kyria; Concubine to Jalak of Shains; mother of Jaelle Aillard and Valentine Aillard.
    • Jaelle Aillard: Daughter of Melora Aillard and Jalak of Shainsa; cousin of Rohanna Ardais, Princess Jerana Elhalyn-Aillard, Lorill and Leonie Hastur, and Camilla n'ha Kyria.

  • Important characters:
    • Camilla n'ha Kyria: Member of the Guild of Renunciates; cousin to Rohanna Ardais, Princess Jerana Elhalyn-Aillard, Melora Aillard, Jaelle Aillard, Valentine Ailllard, Lorill and Leonie Hastur; daughter of Lorill Hastur and Kyria Lindir (although this information is not known to the reader until the end of City of Sorcery).
    • Jalak of Shainsa: Lord of Shainsa; father of Jaelle and Valentine Aillard; captor of Melora Aillard.
    • Lorill Hastur: Regent of the Comyn, twin brother to Leonie of Arilinn. Kinsman to Melora Aillard, Jaella and Valentine Aillard, Rohanna Ardais, Princess Jerana Elhalyn-Aillard; father of Camilla n'ha Kyria (although this information is not known until the end of City of Sorcery).

  • Other characters:
    • Fat Rima, Devra, Nira, Gwennis, Leeanne, Lori, and Rafaela: Renunciates in Kindra's band who went to rescue Melora from Shainsa.
    • Elorie Ardais: Daughter of Rohanna Ardais and Gabriel Ardais.
    • Voice of Jalak: The servant who kept the Great House of Shainsa when Jalak was away.
    • Danette and Garris: bedmates of Jalak of Shainsa.
    • Merach, Hayat: Dry-Town men.
    • Lady Jerana: Princess Consort of Aran Elhalyn; Aillard born and cousin of Rohanna Ardais, Melora Aillard, Jaelle Aillard, Valentine Aillard, Lorill Hastur, and Leonie Hastur.

Parts II & III

    • Magda Lorne (aka Magdalene Lorne, or Margali n'ha Ysabet): Terran Intelligence Agent born and raised in Caer Donn; member of the Guild of Renunciates; one-time wife of Peter Haldane; oath-daughter of Jaelle n'ha Melora.
    • Jaelle n'ha Melora: Member of the Guild of Renunciates; daughter of Melora Aillard, and sister to Valentine Aillard; cousin of Rohanna Ardais, Lorill and Leonie Hastur, and Princess Jerana Elhalyn-Aillard; oath-mother of Margali n'ha Ysabet.
    • Lady Rohanna Ardais: Lady of Ardais and wife of Gabriel Ardais; cousin of Jaelle and Valentine Aillard, Lorill and Leonie Hastur, and Princess Jerana Elhalyn-Aillard.
    • Peter Haldane: Terran Intelligence Agent born and raised in Caer Donn; one-time husband of Margali n'ha Ysabet; Intended husband of Jaelle n'ha Melora.

    • Sherna, Rayna, and Gwennis: Renunciates going to Nevarsin for a half-year; In Thendara House, Jaelle later recalled her travelling companions as Sherna n'ha Liriel, Sherna n'ha Lia, and Devra n'ha Rayna (pg. 33).
    • Wade Montray: son of Russel Montray.
    • Russell Montray: Temporary Coordinator of the Terran Headquarters.
    • Kyril Ardais: Gabriel and Rohanna's eldest son; heir to Ardais; cousin of Jaella and Valentine Aillard.
    • Elorie Ardais: Gabriel and Rohanna's youngest child; cousin of Jaella and Valentine Aillard.
    • Lorill Hastur: Regent of the Comyn Council; twin brother to Leonie of Arilinn; cousin of Jaelle and Valentine Aillard, Rohanna Ardais, and Princess Jerana Elhalyn-Aillard.
