This novel is standalone, but it is interesting to read The Forbidden Tower before, in order to
understand everything. Moreover, The Bloody Sun can be considered as
the pre-history of Regis Hastur's period, which corresponds to the modern
Darkover.

This novel must be read in order to fully understand Darkover modern
period. It tells an important part of the life of very interesting characters
(Kennard Alton, Dyan Ardais, etc.) and is in fact the link between the early
modern history (just after the recontact) and Regis' period.
